Learning to drive in Chico
Learning to drive may seem like a daunting challenge at first; however, with the right guidance, it becomes much more manageable. Here are some simple tips that Local Driving School uses in Chico to help its students make great progress.
►Step 1: Learning The Controls (Location: Home):
Steering – practice hand over hand using a plate or the steering wheel of a car while it is in park. Use this video as a reference.
Pedal Control – practice being able to pivot the foot without picking up the heel from the floor. This habit will reduce confusion between the gas pedal and brake pedal.
►Step 2: Learning Turning/Figure 8’s (Location: Target Parking Lot, or Costco Parking Lot). Find a large open area in the parking lot and begin to practice Figure 8’s.
►Step 3: Get on the road – It is always recommended to start on easy residential roads. Once the student feels comfortable, they can practice on faster roads like Cohaset Rd. or Esplanade and eventually even move on to driving to and from Chico High School or the DMV.
Pickup Locations:
Local Driving School offers free pickup and drop off to all students, but to ensure everyone gets picked up and dropped of within 30 min of their appointment times here are the usual meet up spots for students who live a little far:
► In-n-out : 2050 Business Ln, Chico, CA 95928 . This is the most common spot Local Driving School uses to meet students. Its a great spot to grab lunch or dinner after the appointment and its quite easy to spot our blue driving school car.
► Chico DMV : 107 Parmac Rd #1, Chico, CA 95926 . Local Driving School allows its students to use the driving school car for the behind-the-wheel test with the purchase of either the gold package or
► Chico High School : 901 Esplanade, Chico, CA 95926 . The instructors can pick up and drop off the students at school. When picking up they will typically meet at the front of the school or in the senior parking lot and the instructor will usually message where they are parked.
